Marie Vervaet (F 6-1, 2000) from Belgium. After U18 FIBA European Championship 2017

Marie is a SF with good “size and length” package which allows her to play either as a wing or as a Stretch-4. She also has a good enough wingspan and big hands. Her wide frame and interesting mobility among her O fundamentals make Marie a difficult wing to guard. In the weakness there is regular leap ability.

In the D end, Vervaet doesn’t possess a huge D-Slide, but her lateral mobility is good enough to guard Small Forwards quite well, and her size and mentality help her to become in a good rebounder in this side of the court. Vervaet doesn’t refuse to play through the contact. Marie also has a good enough knowledge, so she is able to defend correctly from the weak side (deflecting and stealing). Maybe Marie was not the best defender in the Championship , but she is not a bad or soft defender at all; because, as a proud Belgian player, she has a tough mentality in the D end.

In the O, the Belgian shows promising dribbling skills, and we can usually see her driving the break after grabbing the rebound in the D’s glass. She also uses crossover or change of pace dribbling to pass the defender. Vervaet is able to score both driving through the zone and shooting from deep, where she feels more comfortable. Marie has a great shooting “package”: mentality and skills; better in spot shot release, but so good enough shooting from the dribbling. She is a very dangerous shooter when she is on fire, and displays an elegant and quick release even from deep. In this side of the court, Marie shows a tough mentality, and doesn’t refuse to take shots at the buzzer. The Belgian can seal the low post correctly, and she displays a good footwork and soft touch from there.
