Mara Mote (G 5-10, 2000) from Latvia

Mara is a skilled CG with a skinny frame and good enough feeling for the game. She’s been working in her body since 2-3 years ago, and she’s added some strength and athleticism. Despite of that, she has a plenty room to improve it. With an interesting wingspan Mara has not a great length for a SG, but her mobility is remarkable and runs really well the court.

Mote is a huge shooter, and in the O end she displays a great repertoire in those kinds of situations. She squares up really quickly and possesses nice mechanics with a high point release, but she should be more consistent in its jump-shot in order to adapt the strength-release proportion (which would help her to prevent shot air-balls). Despite of that, she is a killer when she is confident (capable to hit 3s in a row) and becomes in an offensive threat. Mara has a promising dribbling skill set and is able to put the ball inside the paint with accuracy (either at block and pick and roll situations). These abilities allow her to play as a secondary PG in some phases of the games. She loves shoot the ball, but Mote is able to drive to the rim as well; and she usually scores, gets fouls or both of them. Reliable from the FT’s line, the Latvian could be an interesting scoring if she is able to add the necessary athleticism.

Mara is an underrated defender, because she is able to guard players without ball in the correct way. She displays a good lateral mobility and good aggressiveness, which allow her to deny the pass even against more athletic players. Because she lacks huge strength, the Latvian struggles a bit guarding athletic players driving to the rim, but doesn’t refuse play through the contact. Mara might be interesting rebounder from the wing, due to her knowledge and timing.
