Laura Piera (G 5-9, 2000) from Spain. After U16 FIBA Europe at Udine 2016

Laura is a lefty CG with a regular size, but displays good activity and mobility in both sides of the court. Her wingspan and quickness are also interesting for Guard at this stage.

On the O end Piera shows a remarkable 1st dribbling step, which allows her to pass the defender and drive hard to the rim. She is also able to pass the ball (good tense passes), but needs to improve making decisions (not bad knowledge but she shows a bit dubious). Her dribbling skills are quite good with both hands (more confident with left hand), but she is not an outstanding ball-handler yet. The Spaniard has shooting fundamentals even beyond the arc (quick release but still a bit inconsistent), but she feels more comfortable driving to the rim.

On the D end, Piera takes advantage of its mobility to guard the ball from end to end: she displays activity, quick footwork and aggressiveness. She can steal from the dribbling. Guarding the player without the ball, Laura can chase the player through the screens, and doesn’t refuse play from the contact (needs to add some strength and weight in order to struggle less hitting the screens).

Laura has the athletic fundamentals to become an interesting player if she is able to develop her O skills.
